Professional Experience:
Mr. Grozik is currently Chief Technology Officer for Nth Degree Software, a Wisconsin early stage company developing a suite of tools that improve thinking productivity.
John's position is responsible for product design, web development, marketing, and long range strategic planning.
John's previous experience includes Director of Client Services and Director of Instructional Media Services in the Information
& Media Technologies Division at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
John was a member of the management team that reported to the CIO of the Information & Media Technologies Division (I&MT). Our
division reported to the Office of Academic Affairs and is comprised of 130+ full time professionals and 300 student staff.
In this position I was responsible for a full time staff of 30+ IT professionals and more than 100 student employees. Responsiblities as Director of Client Services included budet, operational and planning oversight for this campus-wide IT support unit. Campus computer labs, mediated classrooms, AV support services, computer account management, campus security, technical support of School of Architecture laptop program, computer printing services, distance education technologies, desktop imaging and security, and the campus 24/7 helpdesk.
While managing Instructional Media Services, John's team
provided video and multimedia design and production services, multimedia classroom design and support, classroom scheduling, media equipment distribution, TV engineering, and distance education support services for a campus of more than 26,000 students.
Previously, as Director of Media at the University of California, Davis, Mr.Grozik managed a division that was responsible for the design, development, production, evaluation, and utilization of a wide range of media
including video, print, photography, teleconferencing (ITFS and satellite), multi-media presentations, computer assisted instruction, videodiscs and computer graphics.
As co-founder and Director of the Instructional Media Center at Marquette University in Milwaukee WI, John directed the activities of a staff of media professionals, designed classroom and production facilities,
specified equipment, evaluated venders and supervised installation of a wide range of media-related facilities.
Mr. Grozik's background has included producing and directing television programs for Indiana University's state-wide higher educational telecommunications network,
WSIU-TV and WTIU-TV. He also has developed a series of 39 interactive videodiscs on basic math, managed a satellite teleconference center and organized a nationwide network of video system dealers. As a communications consultant, John has worked with hospitals in the Milwaukee area, and as a project consultant for the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Research Center in Tampa, Florida. John has taught graduate level courses for the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, School of Information Science and for ITESM, a consortium of private universities in Mexico.
Additional professional activities include serving as a principle of
Grozik Associates, a worldwide media communications and consulting business for corporate, business, and museum clients. Past projects include media and technology design for the Holocaust Museum, St. Louis, MO.; AT&T's COMDEX trade show exhibit; the Minnitrista Cultural Center, Muncie, Indiana; Discover Milwaukee public information center; and virtual reality curriculum development for the Milwaukee Area Technical College. John has led numerous "blue sky" sessions for new or proposed museums, exhibit spaces, and corporate communications projects.
Mr. Grozik regularly speaks at meetings, conventions, and teacher in-service workshops on the impact of emerging communications technologies on society. He has presented a wide variety of futures oriented seminars and workshops for realtors, educators, health care providers, the YMCA, museum organizations, senior citizen organizations, media producers, and corporations.
The original Digital Docent, John enjoys exploring the impact of emerging technologies on society. He has founded a private not-for-profit organization (Digital Campfires Foundation) that refurbishes trailing edge computer technologies to help bridge the growing socio-digital divide.
